NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks And Sacramento Kings In Four-Player Deal! Knicks Want Froncourt Depth And Kings Want To Clear Cap Space

The NBA Trade Rumors had an actual confirmed trade from left field. It's not a groundbreaking trade, just two teams trying to plug some holes and create new ones.

The details of the trade were broken by USA Today:

"The New York Knicks will trade guard Wayne Ellington, forward Jeremy Tyler and a 2016 second-round pick to the Sacramento Kings for forwards Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw, people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports."

There was not much motivation for the Sacramento Kings to acquire Ellington and Tyler, and they are expected to waive both players-or use the stretch provision on Ellington.  Apparently, The Kings are allotting cap space for another big trade, perhaps the rumored one for Josh Smith.

The Knicks, on the other hand, fulfill a need with Quincy Acy who has developed as quite a character in the league. They want some insurance at the small forward position behind Carmelo Anthony. As of now, the only one playing behind Melo is second round pick Cleanthony Early.

Knicks GM Steve Mills told USA Today: "Quincy, we've watched him and paid attention to him. We actually saw him a lot in Summer League. He adds a lot of energy. He's a high energy player and he defends, he can play multiple positions, he runs the floor, blocks shots, he adds a level of energy that we think is missing when we look across the roster and we think he can be helpful there. He's also a guy who is young and a guy who is going to give us everything he can, regardless of how many minutes he plays. With Travis, he's a veteran, which we like, he can shoot the 3-ball, he's long and athletic and we know he's a guy that has the capabilities to play behind Melo (Carmelo Anthony)."

Travis Outlaw is a veteran forward, and usually, Phil Jackson can still get some contributions from these types of players. Derek Fisher will have to follow his mentor's lead.
