Jeremy Lin News: 5 Things 'Linsanity' Star Should Do To Thrive With New-Look Lakers

Several weeks ago, the latest Jeremy Lin news shocked not only Rockets fans, but the entire Asian community as a whole as the 25-year-old floor general was traded to the Lakers for his final season.

Lin said in an interview that he is very excited to play alongside former MVP and future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, with the Black Mamba texting him and saying they got a lot of work to do. For the first time in his career, Lin will also be playing with an elite point guard in Steve Nash, and the 40-year-old veteran would surely teach him a lot of things on how to run the offense a lot better.

But before Lin becomes a star with his new team, he should first work on a few things:

1. Continue to improve his jump shot

With Kobe Bryant sharing ball handling chores with Lin, the Harvard standout should continue to be consistent in knocking down those outside shots. Whether they would be spot up, or off the dribble, Lin's midrange jumpers should be a threat that the moment he prepares to penetrate, defenses would collapse on him.

2. Get teammates in the groove

Just like when he was playing his best in Houston, Lin has a number of possible options where he can pass the ball to open teammates, especially those who thrive in the shaded lane. Guys like Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis, Jordan Hill and rookie Julius Randle would certainly benefit from Lin's playmaking skills. Of course, he can always pass to the weakside where Bryant is waiting for the spot up jumper.

3. Improve his defense

An average defender at his best, Lin should improve his defense especially when guarding athletic point guards and guards who love to move around the court to get the open look. This is where coach Byron Scott comes in. He is a seasoned defensive-minded coach and he would certainly be helpful in improving this aspect of Lin's play.

4. Keep away from turnovers

Now that Lin once again has the chance to run the offense, at least more often than when he was in Houston, he should be able to take care of the ball. Earning the trust of the team is difficult especially in a new squad, but regaining lost trust due to inconsistent play is another thing altogether.

5. Live in the present

Just like what he said in his previous interview when he was announced as a Laker, Lin should stop thinking about Linsanity 2.0. His goal is primarily to make the offense work for Los Angeles, and he does not need to step up offensively especially that Bryant is available to do the work.
