Barclays Premier League: Frank Lampard for Manchester City

The Manchester City announced the signing of Frank Lampard on loan.

The England midfielder that said to left Chelsea in the summer grabbed his paper and pen as he signed for City's affiliate club New York City, yet their MLS season will not start until 2015 or so. It is reported in the interim after a meeting with manager Manuel Pellegrini Lampard. Lampard will train and play with the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League champions.

"This is an opportunity which works perfectly for everyone," said Manuel Pellegrini.

 "Joining up with Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to train and play at the top level and make sure I am in top condition for New York City," Lampard, who will wear the No 18 shirt, said. "I met Manuel and some of the players in New York and I'm looking forward to getting into training and making a contribution for Manchester City ahead of my move over to New York."

Pellegrini was cheerful to welcome Lampard, who is the player with the second-most Barclays Premier League appearances with 577, to his squad.

"Frank is a world-class midfielder and this is an opportunity which works perfectly for everyone, the player, Manchester City, and New York City," Pellegrini said. "I'm looking forward to working with him and integrating him into our squad.

He continued: "New York have made a fantastic signing by recruiting Frank, and I'm really pleased that we'll be able to have him with us for the first half of our season and help prepare him for his new challenge."

 

City said that Lampard, who is their fourth signing of the summer after Bacary Sagna, Fernando and Willy Caballero, will be available for all of City's domestic and European games during his spell.
