NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Love To Cleveland Confirmed But Under Wraps Until August 23! Wiggins, Bennett And Cavs 2015 First Round Pick To Minnesota!

The NBA Trade Rumors about Kevin Love have finally come to an end. It will not be declared until August 23 when the 30 day moratorium on Andrew Wiggins expires.

The terms of the trade still involved 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins, last year's first overall pick Anthony Bennett and the Cleveland Cavaliers' first round pick in the 2015 draft (protected, but the terms were not divulged).

The report came from Yahoo Sports, and it also mentioned that the Cavaliers asked for some guarantees:

"Cleveland is making the deal with Minnesota with a firm agreement Love will opt out of his contract in 2015 and re-sign with the Cavaliers on a five-year, $120 million-plus contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports."

It is a reasonable request. They gave up two first overall picks in the deal. That's nothing to scoff at.

In the middle of negotiations, Minnesota seemed to have all the cards. They had other demands like acquiring Thaddeus Young and that Cleveland take on the contracts of Kevin Martin, J.J. Barea and even Alexey Shved.

But the tide turned against them when Kevin Love himself made the trade request and he made it very clear that he will opt out after the 2015 season. The Timberwolves lost their leverage, and they took the package-which is actually a very good one-that Cleveland was offering.

A deal for Thaddeus Young could still be struck by offering Anthony Bennett, but apparently, that would not involve Cleveland anymore.

For the Cavaliers, it was now or never. They don't have salary cap space next year if Kevin Love would become a free agent. Yahoo explains:

"Part of the Cavaliers' motivation in making the deal for Love was a belief Love would have ended up with the rival Chicago Bulls in a trade and created a significant obstacle in the Eastern Conference, sources said. Cleveland wouldn't have had the salary-cap space to sign Love next summer and could have only obtained him through the trade with Minnesota in a deal now."

The Cavs also acquire Kevin Love's "Bird rights" which allows his incumbent team to go over the cap and sign him in a 5-year max contract.
