‘Homeland’ Season 4 Spoilers: Brody May Come Back Through Flashbacks, Plot Focuses On Afghanistan Drawdown

New "Homeland" season 4 spoilers reveal that Brody may come back in the form of flashbacks, according to showrunner Alex Gansa. The plot of "Homeland" season 4 will also focus on the Afghanistan drawdown and Carrie will be left with the task of keeping the country together.

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Gansa to ask him about the latest "Homeland" season 4 spoilers. While he was hesitant about revealing too much, he did suggest that Brody may come back in the form of Carrie's flashbacks and memories of her child's father.

"What about Brody - might he still return in flashbacks?" EW asked Gansa.

"I would always hold out the possibility that something like that could happen. He was such as significant part of Carrie's life that just to drop him completely would feel wrong, because Carrie is grieving for his loss," Gansa responded.

EW was also able to get some spoilers out of Gansa about the "Homeland" season 4 plot. The storyline will draw from real life incidents, specifically the Afghanistan drawdown.

"The whole reason we chose this part of the world is that American forces are drawing down in Afghanistan. So the question is: What were we doing there for 14 years? When we leave is the Taliban just going to swoop back in and take the country over? What was all the blood and treasure spent worth? And when the military does draw down, who's left behind? People like Carrie Mathison and Martha Boyd (Robins) - the CIA and the State Department people are the ones left on the ground when the military leaves, and it's up to them to try and keep that country intact. Carrie's on the ground in a dangerous place trying to break the law which puts her in a very charged situation."

Carrie will also get back to the job she's made for - a "case officer in a foreign capital" in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

As we previously reported, Gansa said that "about six months" have passed since we last saw Carrie in the "Homeland" season 3 finale episode, and she's no longer pregnant.

"She has given birth to the child and I'd rather not give away where the kid is, but I will say probably one of the reasons she's found herself in Afghanistan and Pakistan is it's a place where you're disallowed from bringing a dependent," Gansa said in his spoiler chat with EW.

"So she doesn't have like a child in one arm and a cell phone in the other working espionage," EW comments.

"Correct," Gansa responded.

Sounds like Carrie's baby - whose father is Nicholas Brody - may not be a big part of "Homeland" season 4.

The new season will premiere this fall.
