Sam Smith Talks Boring Dates After Coming Out As Gay And Finding Closure With The Man Behind 'In The Lonely Hour'

Sam Smith is gay and proud, but coming out may not help with his recent bout of boring dates.

During a recent interview with 102.7 radio, Sam Smith revealed that while his dating life has been picking up since his newfound fame, it hasn't led to anything serious quite yet.

"I've been on more dates in the past two weeks I have in a long time," revealed Sam Smith during the June 27 interview. "They're all a bit boring."

In addition to being his chart-topping debut album, "In the Lonely Hour" also provided the closure Sam Smith needed with the man who inspired the music.

"I told him before the album came out and it gave me a bit of closure actually," said the 22-year-old according to the Independent.  "It just put a book end at the end of the record.  It was amazing.

"I'm so happy I did it.  What I wrote the songs about don't affect me anymore and that's what I rely on, I literally rely on when they're singing it back to me, the songs almost come alive again.  It makes me emotional every moment when they're singing back.  I'm thinking, I can't believe this is happening to me."

Regarding advice to gay individuals who are struggling to come out, Sam Smith said, "Just be yourself."

"Don't make it an issue. Let's make it a normality. To make it equal we kind of have to act equal."
