Upcoming Nokia Phones 2014: There Is Still Hope Of A Nokia Smartphone Running Android, Free From Microsoft's Prying Eyes

Late last month, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has sent a letter to his employees stating the plans and steps he wishes to take for the next 12 months - and that includes the layoff of around 18,000 employees, most of which reportedly are coming from the Microsoft Mobile division, Nokia's former employees.

That would certainly mean that after these layoffs, Microsoft will almost be free from Nokia's old self.

However, there is still a glimpse of hope that Nokia would once again rise from the ashes and develop its own Android smartphone.

According to a report by Android Authority, Nokia, the remnant that's left of it, has recently been hiring several key positions through its LinkedIn account, people that could possibly turn the tides in the Finnish brand's favor.

In a statement from Nokia's Senior VP of Strategy, Sebastian Nyström, the company is indeed building a team for a new products business.

"Excitement about Nokia products in the blogosphere! We are indeed hiring for new products businesses", Nyström posted on his Twitter account.

If the Fins are in fact looking to rebuild the Nokia brand, this will certainly be good news for Nokia fans, and even Android fans as a whole.

Without the influence of Microsoft, Nokia can actually develop and build an Android smartphone that could look like the ones from Motorola, HTC, Samsung, Sony and even Chinese brands like Huawei and Xiaomi.

Unfortunately, such a promising future would just have to wait.

In the report, the Microsoft-Nokia deal included a clause wherein Nokia would not be allowed to use its name in mobile phones in the next two years. This means the earlier we can finally see a Nokia smartphone actually running on Android is 2016.

Seems like a distant dream, though let's hope these rumors indeed push through.
