'Hyrule Warriors' Release Date, Trailer, Gameplay, New Characters: Nintendo and Tecmo Koei Reveal Pre-Order Bonuses By Region [VIDEO]

Nintendo and Tecmo Koei's latest game "Hyrule Warriors" has a release date of Sept. 26 for the Wii U. The game is a combination of "Legend of Zelda" characters with the "Dynasty Warriors" hack and slash play style.

Tecmo Koei is best known for its "Dynasty Warrior" franchise, a hack-and-slash series of games that takes place in medieval China. "Samurai Warriors" is also a similar franchise by Koei but instead takes place in feudal Japan.

The hack-and-slash platform is mostly used in "Hyrule Warriors" with the characters and settings in the Zelda universe being used. The game is non-canon, meaning it isn't a part of the larger Zelda storylines, and it takes place in a different timeline where the forces of Hyrule battle against the forces of evil.

The standard Legend of Zelda characters make their appearance in the character roster, with the Link, Princess Zelda, Impa, Sheik, and Goron chief Darunia. The latest addition to the character roster is Ganondorf. Each character has their own unique combat styles that they may have adopted from any previous Zelda titles.

Link for example possesses a sword and shield style of combat, much like how he would fight in the original Zelda titles.

Other aspects from the Dynasty Warrior franchise are also carried over to Hyrule Warriors such as the loot system where players can search the battlefield for items that can improve their character. These items may include Heart Containers or Pieces of Hearts to increase overall health. Character specific weapons may also be found to further enhance the attacks that the characters play.

The three latest playable characters for "Hyrule Warriors" Ganondorf, Zant and Ghirahim, have gotten a wealth of new screenshots showing off their finest. All three have been taken off the Enemies roster and placed solely and firmly with the list of playable characters.

Two new enemies have also been added: King Dodongo, one of the original bosses for the Nintendo 64's The Ocarina of Time. Link, in trying to help Darunia of the Goron, must defeat the giant lizard who has taken up residence in the volcano.

The second villain is Manhandla, the four headed, very large "Petey Piranha" type plant found in many of the 8 bit and DS Zelda games. Players will take on several variations of the mutated Seymour-esque plant, including a metal one!

During Nintendo's livestream earlier this week, we finally got some concrete details on the special editions for each region. With thanks to Eurogamer. The Japanese had already revealed that they will be receiving a Tri-force clock. Europeans can fancy themselves up with a new scarf in blue and red trim, complete with the Hylian crest.

North American gamers can get access to the costume DLC, which unlocks new outfits for both Link and Zelda from "Ocarina, Twilight Princess" and "Skyward Sword." Which one you get depends on which retailer you pre-order the game from.

European players will unlock two Ganondorf costume sets (Twilight Princess and Ocarina) so long as they register the game by October 17 with Club Nintendo, a month after the European release date.
