NVIDIA Tegra K1 Release Date: Monster Chipset Powers 8” Shield Tablet; Promises ‘Incredible Graphics, Extraordinary Power Efficiency’

NVIDIA Tegra K1 release date: Gamers all over the world are at the edge of their seats as Nvidia officially announced that its Tegra K1, which they dubbed as “the world’s fastest chipset,” will power the long-awaited Shield Tablet.

Powered by a 2.2GHz dual-core Cortex A15 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 192-core Kepler GPU, coupled with a storage expandable up to 128 GB, the Shield Tablet can house four thousand videos through its microHDMI port as well as stream games from a GeForce GTX-powered PC through the Nvidia GameStream technology.

“It's another worldly combination of 192 supercomputer-class GPU cores, incredible graphics horsepower, and extraordinary power efficiency,” according to a description from the NVIDIA website. “For the first time ever, you can experience extraordinary GPU-accelerated performance without sacrificing power consumption. Game, browse, watch, and create with the blazing performance of the universe's most advanced—and greenest—mobile architecture.”

With an impressive 8-inch 1920×1200 multi-touch IPS display, the tablet, "was built specifically for gamers," according to the California company.

Furthermore, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang declared, “If you're a gamer and you use a tablet, the NVIDIA Shield tablet was created specifically for you … It delivers exceptional tablet performance and unique gaming capabilities to keep even the most avid gamers deeply immersed, anywhere they play."

The Shield Tablet can stream to Twitch from both the front-facing camera and the game you're playing. It can also hold up to four controllers.

Available at $299 for the 16 GB version and $399 for the 32 GB internal memory, the said tablet containing the Tegra K1 will be released in Europe this August, which be followed by more areas by the end of this year. The continuous release of the monster chipset on various devices is a part of its efforts to take down the reigning Snapdragon.
