Huawei Ascend P7 Review: Metal Frame And Glass Casing Makes This A Premium-Looking Android Handset, But What About Its Performance?

Due to its high-end specs, a lot of people have been wondering how this high-end Android flagship really stacks up in a Huawei Ascend P7 review.

In case you are gearing to get this Huawei smartphone, then here are some things you might want to consider:

Design

The phone is a box-type handset with glass panels on both sides, certainly resembling that of Sony's Xperia flagship lineup. Both sides have Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection so you would not worry too much about scratches and breaks. The Ascend P7 has a metal frame that keeps the phone stylish-looking and seemingly more premium than other more expensive smartphones in the market.

Display

The Huawei Ascend P7 sports a 5-inch IPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. While it does not boast the super high resolution QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440), 1080p may already be enough for most consumers. Viewing angles are good and colors do not easily get washed up when looking from steep angles. IPS does fine, though Super AMOLED is still arguably the best display in an Android phone.

Chipset

This is where the Huawei Ascend P7 does not appeal much, with its home-baked HiSilicon Kirin 910T. The quad-core CPU is only clocked at 1.6GHz, which may not be enough in completing some processor and memory-hungry tasks. The 2GB of RAM is fine, but getting Mali 400 GPU may be a let down for power users who always push their devices to the limit. As expected, reports and benchmarks show that the chipset's performance is mediocre at best, and ways behind Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips.

Camera

Huawei Ascend P7 bounces back in the camera department with its 13MP primary camera with LED flash and ability to record 1080p clips. In front is a 5MP snapper which has become the staple resolution for front cams in Chinese-made handsets these days. One exception is the recently announced Xiaomi Mi4 which paired the 13MP rear shooter with an 8MP front cam.

Verdict

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a premium-looking device with a high-powered chipset, though it underperforms against the competition in benchmarks. The camera pair for this Android device is top notch, and the smartphone should be an instant favorite among photo and selfie enthusiasts. At around $496, the phone costs low enough to get the attention of the market who can't afford most flagships.
