NBA Rookies 2014: Andrew Wiggins Trade To Minnesota Was A Blessing In Disguise! No Room To Grow With LeBron And Kyrie In Cleveland!

The NBA Rookies of 2014 have been generating buzz, but for Andrew Wiggins, it was not for the reasons he expected.

The Kevin Love trade has been extensively discussed. It has struck the basketball world's imagination of how LeBron James and Kevin Love would play together. However, there is another side to this trade and he may actually have the better end of the deal.

Of course, for Minnesota, losing a top 10 player is never good (unless you get a top 10 player in return) but for Andrew Wiggins as a player, transferring to a team with low expectations will give him all the room to hone his game.

Grantland discussed Andrew Wiggins new situation:

"You can grow only so much when you're not given responsibility. It's tough to become a franchise player if you never have to carry a franchise.

Given all that background, would it really be better for him to spend his career next to Kyrie and LeBron?

It's not that young guys can't thrive next to older stars - Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley turned out OK. But Wiggins has specific weaknesses in his game that keep him from unleashing hell on people, and those weaknesses would be magnified in Cleveland.

If you think Andrew Wiggins can be a top-10 or top-five player one day, Minnesota's the best place for him. If you think he's destined to be a killer role player somewhere, that's fair. But did you really watch those Big 12 tournament highlights?"

Wiggins needs to develop his offense more, along with his ballhandling. He will not have too many opportunities since Kyrie is a point guard and LeBron James is also a facilitator. There is even Dion Waiters who also wants to start.

Meanwhile, Wiggins has a wide open path in Minnesota. From the Minnesota Post:

"Post-Love, the Wolves are banking on athletic youth. Under the circumstances it is a worthy gamble. For every flashy dunk, there is likely to be two or three cringe-worthy bricks - wayward outside shots - to be endured by the Target Center faithful (and if they are still in the building they are indeed among the faithful)."

Andrew Wiggins will accelerate his development with the Timberwolves, whether he likes it or not. But the safe bet is that he likes it.
