'Frozen' Sequel Confirmed! Books To Be Released Prior To Film? So When Is 'Frozen 2' The Movie?

The blockbuster hit "Frozen" became the highest grossing animated film ever. Exceeding way past the $ 1 billion mark automatically merits a sequel, right? Well, yes and no.

There will be a sequel, but it's not the way we think it is. The story of Anna and Elsa will be continued in book form. From THR:

"Anna & Elsa #1: All Hail the Queen and its sequel, Anna & Elsa #2: Memory and Magic, will go on sale Jan. 6, 2015. The first two stories will add more detail to the Frozenworld and follow Anna and Elsa as they get to know each other as sisters.

Two more books will follow later in the year. Random House plans to publish three or four books a year going forward.

The books will be written by Erica David, who has penned licensed books spun off from How to Train Your Dragon, Legend of Korra and Mr. Peabody & Sherman."

The publisher is Random House children's division. Its president, Barbara Marcus compared the new "Frozen" series to their big hit "Never Girls" series, which is set in Disney's Neverland.

She quotes: "We have seen our Disney Never Girls series fill a real niche in the chapter book market, and with the momentum for Frozen only continuing to grow, we knew this was the perfect focus for this new series."

The big question is, when is the sequel? Cinema Blend has that covered:

The studio will have us believe that they have a five-year expansion plan in place for "Frozen" that will include everything from Sing-Along screenings at major movie theaters to a Broadway-style stage show. A traveling Ice-Capades show is in the planning stages, and - of course - a traditional film sequel "Frozen 2" has to hit theaters eventually.

Of course, Disney operates in a very different way than other film outfits and they believe "Frozen" is not simply a hit movie-it can also be a timeless classic like their other iconic franchises.
