Worst Movie Of The Year Is A Box Office Hit! Not All Franchises Were Meant To Have Sequels! Which One Is It: TMNT or Transformers?

Past the halfway mark of the year, there are already safe bets for the title of Worst Movie of the Year. Not surprisingly, it has the makings of a box-office hit. Being part of a franchise helps and sometimes it leads the producers to a feeling of complacency.

Last year, a comedy sequel was named by Time.com as the worst movie, and that is "Grown Ups 2." It was also nominated for a Razzie award, which chooses the worst in Hollywood.

Time.com's criticism:

"There is no plot. I don't mean there isn't much of a plot. I mean there is no plot. Just four repulsive guys (Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade and Kevin James) wandering around their hometown confronting the big themes of life: Urination, Defecation, Drooling, Bad Things Happening to Their Scrotums. Misogynistic, homophobic and sloppy, Grown Ups 2 is essentially a walk down a junior-high school hallway, except for the presence of various lovely women (Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello) who we're expected to believe actually married these guys."

This year, some a record number of 'tentpole franchise' movies have been shown. We've seen sequels and reboots galore. Most of them make money even if they stink.

Most people would assume that "Transformers: Age of Extinction" by critics' 'darling' Michael Bay would get the nod, but it was upstaged by the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot.

From We've Got This Covered:

"Unsurprisingly, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is not a very good movie, or even a half good one. Its dedication to nostalgia necessitates a story that plays like a big budget TV pilot. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles does manage to avoid the egregious length and sequel seeding of other superhero films, perhaps since Nickelodeon knows they'll never be more than ten years away from getting to take another crack at this."

Other candidates included "The Amazing Spider Man 2" and "Robocop." We told you it's the year of the reboots. But these films should've gotten the boot from the concept stage.
