Simon Cowell To Produce 'Betty Boop' Movie; Cartoon Character The 'Biggest Diva' The Music Mogul Would Work With?

Simon Cowell is producing a "Betty Boop" movie, in partnership with the makers of the Lego movie. The music mogul admits that he had "worked with some serious divas" but believes Betty Boop could be the biggest of them all, The Daily Mail reported.

According to Variety, Simon Cowell's "Betty Boop" movie will be produced by Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic and has been in the works for several months.

Fleischer Studios, owner of the Betty Boop character, is already working alongside Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic in creating a "music-driven hybrid animated comedy."

"I am delighted to partner with Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic," said Fleischer Studios CEO and chairman, Mark Fleischer. "Their energy, creativity and playfulness make them a perfect fit for 'Betty Boop.'"

A "Betty Boop" movie had been planned in 1993, but was later cancelled. The film was supposed to tackle the iconic flapper cartoon's rise to fame in Hollywood's golden age. Songs had already been written for it and more than a quarter of the film had already been storyboarded when a new studio boss decided to call off the project, The Guardian reported.

Betty Boop first appeared in the 1930s and since then have appeared in over 100 cartoons. The character had also been licensed through King Features for collaborations with Uniqlo, Chupa Chups, Lancome, NASCAR and Coca Cola.

The 1920s diva last appeared in a cameo in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" in 1988.

Simon Cowell's "Betty Boop" will be co-produced by Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust from Animal Logic and the "X Factor" judge and Adam Milano from Syco.

"I've been trying to get Betty to the dance for years now. Can't believe she's finally said 'Yes,'" said Lust from Animal Logic.

Meanwhile, there had been no announcements as to who will direct or write the film yet.

Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic announced a partnership to make "music-based animated and hybrid animation-live action films", that will be released in 2016, with the help of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
