Gene Simmons Apologizes For Comment, But Still Banned From Several Airwaves

KISS bassist Gene Simmons comment about people afflicted with depression didn't sit well with several radio stations around the globe, banning the band's music in its airwaves.

Simmons is in hot water after a comment that those suffering from depression should "kill themselves."

The comment drew a lot of protests especially in the light of comedian Robin Williams' death, which is suffering from severe depression and died of an apparent suicide.

A Simmons comment however was made a few weeks before Williams died.

An Australian radio station TripleM, Power97 and BobFM in Canada, New York's longtime WPYX DJ Uncle Vito has banned KISS songs.

In the social media, Simmons have been attacked due to his comments, causing angry tweets and posts.

Simmons controversial comment said, "My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don't want to hear f**k all about 'the world is a harsh place.' She gets up every day, smells the roses and loves life," he said. "And for a putz, 20-year-old kid to say 'I'm depressed, I live in Seattle,' f**k you then kill yourself.

However Simmons in a statement on Facebook attempted to correct his errors and apologized for the comment, "depression is very serious and very sad when it happens to anyone, especially loved ones. I have not commented on various allegations made in the media, but I want to make this statement for the record and to clarify. I deeply support and am empathetic to anyone suffering from any disease, especially depression."

"I have never sugarcoated my feelings regarding drug use and alcoholics. Somewhere along the line, my intentions in speaking very directly and perhaps politically-incorrectly about drug use and alcoholics have been misconstrued as vile commentary on depression."

"Unkind statements about depression was certainly never my intention. And I do not intend to defend myself here and now by listing the myriad charities and self-help organizations I am involved with,' he added.
