NBA Trade Rumors: Josh Smith To Charlotte? Detroit Pistons Desperate To Unload J-Smoove In Order To Keep Greg Monroe!

The NBA Trade Rumors are starting to catch fire again as teams which failed to grab their free agency targets try to tweak their rosters using the trade route.

For the Detroit Pistons, the main agenda for the summer was to keep Greg Monroe. It would have been an easy task, but the Pistons center-forward seemed decided to leave.

Detroit has enough cap space to make a decent offer to Monroe, even around $12-14 million. But Greg Monroe did not even sign any offer sheets of any amount since he knows that Detroit has the privilege to match it. He's willing to take the qualifying offer if that's the only way to leave the Pistons.

The main reason for Monroe's discontent is that the Pistons' frontline is jammed with three stars who have poor chemistry. Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith are great individual players but making them play together may not be the best idea.

The possible solution is to trade away one of them, and the obvious choice is Josh Smith. But it's obviously not the easiest. Smith has been called out for his poor shot selection and dipping performance.

Despite all the criticism, Josh Smith was still a very decent player last year. From Swarm and Sting:

"Last season with the Detroit Pistons Josh Smith averaged 16 points, and 6 rebounds per game. His best season came in 2011-2012 with the Atlanta Hawks when he averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game."

Swarm and Sting is the official fan blog for the Charlotte Hornets, and they have floated this possible trade proposal:

"It would be something along the lines of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Gerald Henderson, and maybe a draft pick."

Josh Smith has a hefty paycheck that runs until 2016. Most people say he's overpaid, but Smith was primarily a consistent double-double performer when he was in Atlanta. It is inferred that his production last year also suffered because he was forced to play more of an outside again.

The Hornets are very aggressive since they have seen that the Eastern window has opened. If they acquire Josh Smith and he puts up his old numbers, they might make it to second place.
