'Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends' Trailer Unleashed: As More Countries Purchase Rights, Will A U.S. Release Follow?

On the heels of "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" opening number one in the Japan box office, the full trailer for the final installment in the live action series, "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends," was revealed today. As more countries in the pacific purchase distribution rights, can U.S. fans hope for a release stateside?

This morning an action packed new trailer was released for the final installment in the live action "Rurouni Kenshin" franchise. The film, entitled "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends" feature the final showdown between samurai Kenshin and nemesis Shishio. Anime News Network has translated the dialogue from the currently unsubbed trailer that debuted on the film's official website.

"The Legend Ends" trailer comes after a very successful release of " Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" which was the number one film in Japan in its opening weekend. With the success of that film in Japan, more countries have began to purchase distribution rights, including the Australian company Madman. They announced on their blog today, "Madman is very pleased to announce the acquisition of the final two films in the Rurouni Kenshin live-action trilogy, Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends."

With the success in Japan, the Philippines, and now being licensed in Australia, can fans hope for a U.S. release?

Warner Bros. as the official distributor has plenty of reason to consider it. So far, both films have been overall well received by U.S. film critics. There's also certainly an existing manga and anime fanbase in the U.S. some of which have started a petition online for a U.S. nationwide release. Finally, with other foreign action films like "The Grandmaster" and "Snowpiercer" doing well in the states, it would benefit Warner Bros. to consider the release if only to remain competitive with the Weinstein Company (responsible for the aforementioned foreign action films).

Even though there has been practically no news of confirmation or even consideration of a U.S. release of the live action "Rurouni Kenshin" franchise, perhaps fans can still hope that with another successful box office weekend in Japan, Warner Bros. may just consider distributing the samurai film stateside. "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends" will premiere in Japan on September 6th.
