The next chapter in the X-Men movie series, "X-Men: Apocalypse" will feature the mutants in their new clean slate. Being set in a time frame before the "X-Men" movie in 2000, they can literally rewrite and recast the entire movie.

But no matter what story they pursue, any X-Men that will feature the School for Gifted Youngsters should include Jean Grey and Cyclops as well as fan favorites Storm and Nightcrawler.

The movie's focal point is Apocalypse but the storyline is still being finalized. From an interview with Bryan Singer in EW:

"Not much about the film is known, but Singer says that the film will be 'somewhat' based on the 1990 comic storyline 'Age of Apocalypse,' which features ancient villain Apocalypse and imagines an alternate universe. Singer's words: '[The movie] won't necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I'm playing with'.

Writer Simon Kinberg: 'From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there'll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.'"

Singer continues: "You won't feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You're dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"

What Culture recently explored the possibilities of recreating the series, and they came up with the most popular mutants from their website's visitors:

"Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm and other classic characters would probably be enrolling in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters at the time. Let's hope they find a way to bring back our favorite teleporting mutant Nightcrawler as well."

They also have an admission:

"With the slate wiped clean, literally anybody could pop up. Plus it can give new actors an opportunity to portray the much-loved characters. Was anybody else never too impresses with Halle Berry as Storm?"

It's been 16 years (when the movie is shown on May 27, 2016)since the first movie. A whole new generation of actors would be ready to take on the new roles.
