‘Avengers Age Of Ultron’ Cast: Hawkeye Gets A New Look In The Sequel? Why Was Hawkeye Absent In 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier?'

The "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will show a totally different team and it will also be seen in their new uniforms. Set photos have revealed new looks for most of the main cast, and Hawkeye is no exception.

New set photos were culled from Empire Magazine which provided the first sighting of Hawkeye's new costume. The colors were a nice touch from the pitch black outfit that he wore for most of the first "Avengers" movie.

Speaking of Hawkeye, one of the fans' biggest questions is why was Hawkeye absent during the fall of SHIELD? It would be logical to think that being one of the top agents, he would be there when the whole thing blows up.

The writers of the movie have addressed this on different occasions. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked to SFX:

"CM: There were actually drafts where we had Hawkeye in it, but he didn't have enough to do and suddenly it seemed like we were giving him short shrift. Hey, it's a cameo!

SM: Natasha was doing a lot of that work for us."

They discussed it more extensively in Cinema Blend:

SM: "We knew we wanted Falcon there, we knew we wanted [Black Widow]. You're introducing Winter Soldier. Fury's got a bigger part in this one. It just started to seem like he was going to kind of get a crappy part."

CM:"If we were going to use him, we really wanted to use him well,"

SM:"We toyed around with, and maybe even shot a line or at least in a draft there's a line where we explained he's off somewhere doing something else."

This angle is intriguing. While there are practical reasons not to include him, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they needed to have a proper rationale on why he was not there.

Of course, being the scriptwriters, they made the job quite easy on themselves:

"Markus said that one nice thing about the way the plot of Captain America: The Winter Soldier unfolds is that it all happens on a very short timeline, which actively prevents outside reinforcements from arriving on the scene. 'That is the benefit of a short time period.' he said. 'The movie only takes place in about three days. So, that helps you not call in Iron Man and you know, all your other friends.'"

The full story should be wrapped up in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Marvel knows we're closely watching this, so we need to wait until May 1, 2015.
