2014 Primetime Emmys Expectations: Seth Meyers Dry Humor, Robin Williams Memoriam, And A Big Night For "Orange Is The New Black"?

The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will lose to Sunday Night Football and instead be held on a Monday night this year. Hopefully there are no TV shows that will be fighting their own awards show for ratings. Nevertheless, prepare for another night of strange (and yet not so strange) results as Hollywood's elite gather in the Nokia theater in Los Angeles.

This years Emmys will be hosted by Seth Meyers. He'll have a lot to live up to as he follows up Neil Patrick Harris (who everyone loves) at last year's Emmys. Indiewire however suspects that if Meyers can somewhat amp up his less than spectacular humor from SNL's "Weekend Update", viewers can "expect a pleasant evening."

There have been quite a few recent losses in the film and television community, but the most talked about loss was definitely that of comedic genius Robin Williams. Viewers can expect a memoriam, but Indiewire warns that In Memoriam segments can be tricky due to Hollywood politics. This year Executive Producer Don Mischer will pay due homage to Robin Williams, "a choice that's bound to be met with some controversy even though the nation has been in unified mourning since news broke just over two weeks ago."

And what can be said about the rather tricky business of award winner predictions?

Both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter agree that it will be a big night for Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black," but it will have to defeat "Modern Family" for Best Comedy Series, which has won the prize for the past four years. As far as Best Drama Series is concerned, the money is on Vince Gilligan's masterpiece "Breaking Bad," but it will have to fight off "Game of Thrones" which is coming off of its most successful season yet, and the wild card series that critics raved over, "True Detective."

No matter what happens tonight, expect there to be plenty of social media interaction to keep things moving along. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will air tonight on NBC at 8pm.
