Samsung Gear Solo Release Date: New Smartwatch Will Have Own Sim Card And Will Not Need Smartphone, To Be Released Alongside Galaxy Note 4 At IFA 2014 [PHOTO]

The Samsung Gear Solo is coming, and promises to be the first smartwatch capable of making calls independently.

The Gear 3, which is slated to be Samsung's sixth "wearable" tech after the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, Gear Life, and Gear Fit, will also have an AMOLED screen that is more on the rectangular side, with thin side bezels.

Other possible features include a rectangular home button like those found on Samsung's smartphones and other devices, a cellular radio, and will run on the Tizen operating system instead of Android Wear. The watch won't feature a camera, though.

PocketNow notes that the Gear 3 should be out in September, around the time of the IFA electronics fair in Berlin, Germany.

Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports that Samsung intends to unveil the Gear Solo watch at the big IFA conference in September. As speculated, the Gear Solo will not require a smartphone for communication functionality, and will be able to place calls, send texts and emails, and perform other tasks with its own SIM card, cellular radio, and service plan.

The report claims that Samsung will target outdoors and sporting enthusiasts that wish not to keep a phone handy, but remain connected to the world, and that the company hopes a lower-priced watchphone will be competitive with cheaper smartphones from rival companies.

The price of Gear Solo was said to be US $213.58, which can be higher when released next month. Users of Gear 2 have complained about attaching the device to a Samsung device to make and receive calls. This gives Gear Solo an edge, as it does not need any Samsung gadget to place and accept calls.

It appears that we will hear a lot about the Samsung Gear solo in the upcoming weeks. Check back for more information as it becomse available.
