Gionee Elife S5.5 Price, Review, Update: Handset Known As ‘World’s Slimmest Smartphone’ May Have A Skinnier Successor

Gionee Elife S5.5 price, review, update: The $374 Gionee Elife S5.5, which sports a 5.5 MM thick body has earned it the label of “world’s slimmest smartphone,” but the title may not be the S5.5’s for long if the latest tease from Gionee is any indication.

According to NDTV, Gionee has teased what could be the next contender for the earth’s skinniest mobile handset. The purported ad showed that in 2007 the Moto 8 was the slimmest smartphone, in 2010 it was the iPhone 4, followed by the Moto XT910 in 2011 and then the Gionee Elife S5.5 in 2014. The graphic suggests that S5.5 may soon be followed by yet a slimmer handset.

A spotted Gionee handset, currently dubbed as the Gionee GN9005, shows that it may have a 4.8-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8MP rear-rear camera with flash, and 16GB of storage. The thickness of what could be the S5.5’s successor, 5mm thick. This makes it 0.5 mm thinner than the S5.5. It was also leaked as the Gionee Elife S4.98, NDTV reported.

Though there is nothing concrete on what the thinner version of the S5.5 maybe like, one thing is for sure: The days that Elife S5.5 is the “world’s slimmest smartphone” may soon be over.

The Gionee Elfie S5.5 is currently available in at least 40 countries and consumers will have an option to get the 4G LTE version of the device.

The Gionee Elife S5.5 is a single-SIM handset and runs the Amigo UI on top of its Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, NDTV reported. Specs of the unit include a 5-inch display, the resolution and display quality of which is still unknown. Camera features of the handset include a 13-megapixel shooter with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera available for video calls.

Inbuilt storage for the Gionee Elife S5.5 is 16GB and no memory expansion is available. Battery for the smartphone is a 2300 mAh battery that is also seen on the flagship, Elife E7. The handset can last a day with heavy usage thanks to HMP (heterogenous multi-processing), according to Know Your Mobile. HMP saves battery by sipping the power while the device is on sleep mode.

Connectivity options for the unit include 3G, Wi-Fi, 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and USB OTG. The Gionee Elife S5.5 is available in black, white, pink, blue and purple.
