Bob Dylan's 'The Basement Tapes' Set For Release; Legendary Musician's 1967 Recording With 'The Band' Hit Stores By November 4

Bob Dylan's legendary "The Basement Tapes" is set to be released on November 4.

The rock music legend Bob Dylan's equally legendary "The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11" is a 138 track-six-disc set of recordings of his 1968 sessions with "The Band."

According to Rolling Stone magazine, thirteen Bob Dylan songs recorded in summer 1967 mysteriously got to the hands of fans, citing that "there is enough material - most all of it very good - to make an entirely new Bob Dylan record." The original article was headlined: "Dylan's Basement Tape Should Be Released."

And that is precisely what the rock legend is going to do. Bob Dylan's "The Basement Tapes" will include all of the tracks recorded from the sessions in 1968 plus 30 tracks that reportedly even die-hard fans have never heard before.

The mysterious album that Rolling Stone mentioned was confirmed by Bob Dylan as the recordings he had been working on with "The Band" in 1967. The album called "Great White Wonder" was released and passed on among fans in 1969. Th songs, however, were not made available commercially until 1975 when they were released under Columbia Records.

According to the announcement on Bob Dylan's website, the compilation will sound more like the way it was originally recorded in summer 1967 and will not sound polished or mixed in a studio.

Many of the tracks in the compilation were recorded in the basement of the "Big Pink" house in New York with "The Band" composed of Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson and Levon Helm later joined in.

Apart from the compilation, a source reportedly told Rolling Stone magazine that they have plans of doing new archival projects for Dylan's music. "We're thinking we'll revisit the 1975 era and "Blood on the Tracks," the source said. "The undheard stuff from there is crazy. You can hear the first day of recordings before they put all that echo on. It's amazing."
