New "Vampire Diaries" season 6 spoilers reveal that the upcoming season may be the last for "TVD." Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on "Vampire Diaries" hinted that there is a "finality" to season 6 after the premiere date.

"It very well could be our last [season]," Ian Somerhalder said, according to Digital Spy. "I think now that there's a finality to it, everyone's really realizing that this is a very important time in our lives. We created some very cool storytelling."

The CW has not officially confirmed the future of "The Vampire Diaries" after season 6, which has a scheduled premiere date of October 2, 2014.

Ian Somerhalder has played Damon Salvatore on "The Vampire Diaries" since 2009.

As we previously reported, Ian Somerhalder told HitFix that season 6 will be very different from previous "Vampire Diaries" seasons: "These storylines have been told over the course of five years, the dynamics are changing - it's sort of a reboot."

"By virtue of the dynamics created by the molding of different characters, I think it's going to be very interesting and it's been a long time coming," Ian teased about the upcoming season. "In regards to Bonnie and myself being on that Other Side, it's a great thing."

Meanwhile, executive producer of "TVD" and its spin-off "The Originals" Julie Plec has officially confirmed a crossover!

According to Moviepilot.com, Plec told Entertainment Weekly: "It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can't tell you what or who or when because it hasn't been shot yet, but things are looking good."
