Looney Tunes Live Action Film Gains Momentum: Steve Carell Attached To Star, 'X-Men: First Class' Writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz Will Pen Script

In what has been dubbed "Development Hell," the untitled Looney Tunes live action film has not gone to die. Today it was announced that the film will not only star 'Foxcatcher' lead Steve Carell, but the writers of "X-Men: First Class," have also been confirmed to write the script.

According to Cinema Blend, who first reported on the Looney Tunes Acme project in 2010, "Warner Bros. has been actively developing the new Looney Tunes feature for a while now." The original pitch for the project: What happens at the mysterious Acme factory where some of the greatest (or worst) products used by Looney Tunes? After four years, the project finally gains some substantial steam as two of Hollywood's finest writers become attached to write it.

Today Variety reported that, "the studio has set "X-Men: First Class" scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to pen the script." For those not familiar with the pair, The Hollywood Reporter explains: "Miller and Stentz continue to be among the hottest writing teams in town, and earlier in the summer were tapped to pen the 'Power Rangers' movie for Lionsgate. The pair have screenwriting credit on Marvel's 'Thor' and are working on a 'Terminator TV' series. They are repped by WME and Principato-Young Entertainment."

In addition to these two excellent writers, the project is also in talks with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa to possibly direct. They have an upcoming film, "Focus," already on their list of credentials along with "Crazy Stupid Love."

Speaking of "Crazy Stupid Love," if the directors sign on for the "Looney Tunes" film, they'll be reuniting with Steve Carell, who is attached to star. Carell has recently been gaining buzz for his film "Foxcatcher." Some critics have already predicted that with this role he could take home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor

Looks like the nostalgia theme in film will continue as this currently untitled "Looney Tunes" project drives ahead.
