'Triple Nine' Gets Oscar Contending Release Date: Key Cast Includes Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Aaron Paul, Woody Harrelson And More

As the summer blockbuster releases come to a close, more early Oscar predictions generate. In this case though, its for the 2016 Oscars. Today Director John Hillcoat secured an Oscar contending date for his latest project, "Triple Nine." The film will star some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including quite a few Academy Award veterans.

Deadline reports, "Open Road Films has staked out an awards season release date for 'Triple Nine', setting a September 11, 2015 nationwide release for the heist thriller directed by John Hillcoat and featuring a serious ensemble cast."

The cast so far includes Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Gal Gadot, Clifton Collins Jr and Norman Reedus. For a reminder of how stacked this list is, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Kate Winslet each have Academy Award nominations. Not to mention, almost all of them have Golden Globe wins and/or nominations.

Details of the film's plot have been scarce other than that it's a heist film involving a crew of dirty cops being blackmailed by the Russian mob. The film's title comes from the crew attempting to pull off a fake 999 or, officer down call on the radio.

According to Hitflix, other key crew include Matt Cook, who is writing the screenplay, and Anonymous Content, Sierra/Affinity and Worldview Entertainment who are financing and producing.

While this amazing cast continues filming in Atlanta, audiences will have an entire year to wait for the finished product. In the meantime, Indiewire has begun to update their 2015 Oscar predictions blog, giving some hints on films to look for this fall. "Interstellar" anyone?
