Jeremy Lin news: After a lackluster performance with the Rockets the past two years, this is certainly a fresh start for Lin who is only in his third full season as an NBA player. 

But now that he will have a new start with the Lakers, there is no better way to prove his worth in this league than to become a starter. 

The question for most Lakers fans is whether the 25-year-old point guard has what it takes to lead a team that features a mix of rookies, veterans and superstars. 

Here are three reasons why Lin will be the perfect starting point guard for Los Angeles this coming season:

1. He has leadership skills - If we can recall from his stint with the Knicks, Lin had the ability to lead veterans even the likes of Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudamire. While the atmosphere is certainly different in Los Angeles with Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba could very well allow Lin to hold the ball a little longer for the benefit of the entire team. 

2. Improved off-ball movement - While playing with Houston, Lin has developed into a shooting guard especially in his first year with the Rockets. Because James Harden almost always holds the ball longer than anyone else, Lin slowly developed skills as an off-ball guard who can catch and shoot. This can also be the case with Bryant if he demands to hold the ball longer. 

3. More control and discipline - Compared to his early months in the league, Lin has developed into a more mature floor general, something that Los Angeles really needs right now. While Steve Nash can still handle some minutes on the floor, the primary and starting point man for the Lakers will certainly be Lin. 

It will be a tough season for the Lakers, but with Byron Scott at the helm and a rejuvenated Bryant eager to prove his doubters wrong, LA could very well be the dark horse of this upcoming NBA season.
