New York Knicks News: Is Anthony Capable Of Carrying Knicks Deep Into The Playoffs?

There are no good news for the New York Knicks this off-season aside from the fact that they retained scoring superstar Carmelo Anthony. It was a pretty close call, and some reports even claim that Anthony was ultimately torn between Chicago and New York.

Still, the 30-year-old chose to be with his hometown.

Unfortunately, that also means he will have to wait a little more in order to finally win an NBA title.

Of all the off-season moves by the Knicks, Anthony's signing could just be the only spark of hope for New York that they'll be contenders this year.

However, even with Melo with the team, New York still failed to enter the Playoffs last year. And it definitely adds to the argument whether Anthony can single-handedly carry the Knicks deep into the post-season.

Just like was Kevin Love was in Minnesota, there has been little success for Anthony as a Knick. While Melo managed to get into the Playoffs, while Love did not even make it once, New York only managed to play during the first round, and no further.

In fact, some may argue that both Love and Melo are stat sheet stuffers who just can't translate those numbers into wins. Minnesota has finally moved on and the future certainly looks bright with Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and Thaddeus Young coming on board to team up with Ricky Rubio and the rest of the Wolves' veterans.

On the other hand, New York chose to retain their sole star, and in its wake, the inability to sign any All Star caliber player who can help Melo chase that elusive ring - and we're talking about the Eastern Conference title.

There is obviously hope for the Knicks as they have a solid starting lineup with Stoudamire, Smith and Anthony, together with a few potential young stars. Head coach Derek Fisher and manager Phil Jackson will certainly try their best to let the Knicks run the triangle, an offensive setup that has won championships in the past.

Melo and company should just be able to adjust quick enough to raise their label as contenders for this season.
