Denzel Washington Shows His Special Skills In New Featurette For 'The Equalizer': Sequel Already In The Works, 'Training Day' Director Says 'Denzel Turns Action Into Drama'

The newest footage from "The Equalizer" shows Denzel Washington displaying a special set of skills. The featurette was released today, generating more buzz for the film's upcoming debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. Since the film is directed by "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, there's a good chance this could lead to yet another Oscar nomination for Washington. Given that a sequel has already been greenlit, it seems Sony is definitely betting on it.

Indiewire provides the new footage and states, "In the newly-released 2 videos, first, in a scene from the movie, Washington gets into a tense exchange with his Russian adversary (played by Marton Csokas); and in the second clip, a behind-the-scenes featurette, Washington, Fuqua and the film's stuntmen, talk the "special skills" 'The Equalizer' possesses, which he employs from time to time, when necessary."

"The Equalizer" is "the adaptation of the 1980′s TV show of the same name stars Denzel Washington as a former black ops soldier who fakes his own death in hopes of leaving his violent past behind and starting fresh," according to We Got This Covered. They go on to report that, "test screenings were through the roof, according to Sony, and a sequel has already been given the green light." In fact, if all continues to go well with the film's national release in September, "The Equalizer" will launch a Denzel Washington action franchise of sorts.

The good test screening seems to be good news for director Antoine Fuqua, who is coming off of ast year's decently successful release of "White House Down." In an interview with Collider, Antoine Fuqua spoke about working with Denzel Washington again after the wildly successful "Training Day": "He keeps me honest, I keep him honest. He's an incredible actor and when you have an actor like Denzel action becomes drama. So it's not just action anymore. Part of what I discovered in ‘Training Day' and things like that, you could take an action scene and create great drama as if it was a dialogue scene, which is part of what you'll see."

Action film fans have a couple of weeks to wait for the release of "The Equalizer" which is due out September 26th. Until then, enjoy the newest clip and featurette that features Denzel Washington still showing that he's got skills.
