True Detective Season 2 Cast Release Date Rumors And Spoilers: Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Garrett Hedlund, Vince Vaughn And Elisabeth Moss All Rumored To Be Involved With Season 2 [PHOTO]

"True Detective" season 2 is coming. There have been a lot of rumors about the cast and a few confirmed details about the plot.

Variety reports that Lombardo told the audience at the Guardian International Television Festival in Edinburgh that the new season of True Detective "won't be quite as dark as the first". But he cautioned that the show's creator Nic Pizzolatto will "explore the darkness in people's souls".

"It's still dark," said Lombardo. "It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lombardo also told the audience: "We're going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer." He confirmed the show has "different characters" and "a different setting".

"It's set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that's probably all I'm allowed to say," said Lombardo. "We'll probably be announcing casting soon."

Carey Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of the first season but "three or four" directors will get a shot at season 2 with Lombardo claiming the writing from Pizzolato is even better than the first season.

The writing is better than last season. It's exceptional," Lombardo said.

Matthew McConaughey has revealed that he knows who has been cast.

"I know who's on Season 2, but I'm not going to tell you," he said on the Emmy Awards red carpet, according to USA Today.

The latest rumors, via Deadline, Variety, and The Wrap, were that Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Garrett Hedlund are close to finalizing contracts as the leads. ince Vaugh, Elisabeth Moss, have all been rumored to be involed in "True Detective" season 2.

Vaughn is in talks to play Frank Semyon, a former thug-turned-businessman who's working with a local mayor and his political cohorts to spearhead the construction of a high-speed railway system that links Southern California to Northern California in order to reap financial gains from federal grants and land purchases, the website reported.

Speaking with the public radio program "To the Best of Our Knowledge" (via MTV), Pizzolatto revealed a bit more about the central characters we'll see in season 2:

So thats all we know right now, keep checking back for more True Detective Season 2 spoilers, especially when that casting announcement comes through the works, and when it starts filming in September.
