The Ethan Hawke Documentary 'Seymour' Acquired By Sundance Selects; The 'Before Midnight' Actor's Non-Fiction Directorial Debut To Premiere On Telluride

While it is not his first time to work behind the camera, Ethan Hawke's documentary, his first non-fiction piece, was bought by Sundance Selects and will be premiered worlwide on Saturday at Telluride Film Festival.

Ethan Hawke's documentary "Seymour: An Introduction"'s U.S. And Latin American rights were picked up by Sundance Selects.

His directional debut for a non-fictional piece, Ethan Hawke's documentary "Seymour" revolves around the greatness that is legendary pianist Seymore Bernstein.

The documentary reportedly showcases Bernstein's profile, who started to play the piano at a tender age and was already a master of the craft and was teaching it to his peers at the age of 15. He had a long, successful musical career before retiring and spending most of his time helping others harness their own musical gifts.

The documentary produced by Greg Loser and Heather Smith of Room 5 Films, and Ethan and Ryan Hawke of Under The Influence Productions is also slated to be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

"We have had the great fortune of working with Ethan throughout his career, going back to his directorial debut "Chelsea Walls" and most recently with Richard Linklater's "Boyhood." We are thrilled to continue our relationship with his absolutely charming first documentary feature," said Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films.

In regard to his film being selected and bought, Hawke reportedly said: "IFC Films has always been a champion of the kind of cinema I most admire. I am both proud and grateful to be associated with them. Everyone involved with making this documentary is thrilled. We love this film and are anxious to share it."

The deal for Hawke's first documentary was negotiated by John Sloss of Cinetic Media, on behalf of the filmmakers, and Arianna Bocco of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. Hawke is under the management and representation of CAA and The Schiff Company.
