The 'Rosewater' Trailer Released; Teaser For Jon Stewart's Directorial Debut Straightforward, Captivating [VIDEO]

The "Rosewater" trailer has been released and a quick look at Jon Stewart's directorial debut showed it is straightforward and captivating.

In the "Rosewater" trailer recentlly released, Stewart showcased the gist of his first movie, which tells the true story of Maziar Bahari, an Iranian-born journalist based in London, who was captured during his coverage of the 2009 Iran presidential elections.

In the movie's teaser, the "Rosewater" trailer just released showed Gael Garcia Bernal who plays Maziar Bahari, as well as little glimpses of Jason Jones who plays himself.

The trailer showed Bahari leaving his pregnant fiancee, supposedly only for a week, to cover the presidential elections in Iran. He arrived in Tehran in the midst of protests done in social media and was accused of espionage, arrested and detained for 118 days. During the course of his detainment in the infamous Evin prison in Iran, he was interrogated by a brusque man who smelled like delicate Rosewater - the irony that gave the film its name.

Apart from directing, the film's screenplay was also the work of Jon Stewart. The story was an adaptation of the Bahari and Aimee Molloy book "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival."

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Stewart recalled the gruelling process of having a film picked up by big production units in Hollywood. "I was unfamiliar with the filmmaking process, which can be very long," said Stewart. "And I'm not built for that. Ultimately, I said to Maziar, 'I feel like I know a path through this. I think I have a sense of what the individual story is but also what the larger thrust is. Let me just go ... write this and let's be done.'"

"Rosewater" was shot in Jordan last summer, during which Stewart took an 8-week leave from "The Daily Show." The film opens on November 7, but will premiere first at the Telluride Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival.
