Miley Cyrus' VMA date Jesse Helt has reportedly turned himself in to police custody, following reports claiming that the homeless man had a standing arrest warrant. He has posted bail.

The Internet went abuzz not only about finding out why Miley Cyrus' VMA date was the one who accepted the pop superstar's award, but also when news broke that he had an arrest warrant in Oregon for failure to comply with the rules of his probation.

Miley Cyrus' VMA date Jesse Helt, a 22-year-old Oregon native, surrendered at the Polk County Jail and posted $2,500 bail, according to a statement made by Martin Silbernagel, director of Polk Country Community Corrections.

Helt will need to appear at the hearing of his charges in two weeks.

He reportedly went to Los Angeles to try his luck at modeling and had been homeless since. He left Oregon without fulfilling the duties of his probation for a criminal trespass charge.

He made waves when he accepted Cyrus' moon man, saying: "I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people."

While Helt's criminal past has been made public, a report by Us Magazine suggested that Cyrus will continue helping her new-found friend.

According to a statement by Miley Cyrus' friend Trevor Neilson,who put the "Wrecking Ball" singer in touch with Helt,Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter will continue to help out the cause of homeless youth in the US.

"Miley Cyrus will be assisting [Helt] with this process, and they both are committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experiences homelessness in America each year," Neilson said in his statement.

Linda Helt, Jesse Helt's mother, confirmed that Cyrus has offered to pay for the younger Helt's legal duties.
