Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 60th Birthday Year Commemorated With Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection Release from Epic Records and Legacy Recordings [VIDEO]

Stevie Ray Vaughan would have celebrated his 60th birthday this year. The legendary blues guitarist died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990 after performing with Double Trouble and Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin.  Vaughan's mainstream career only lasted seven years, but his contribution to the blues is still heard in the music of including John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.

Stephen Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas, Texas on October 3, 1954, the same year the Fender Stratocaster went into production.

To celebrate Stevie Ray Vaughan's 60th year, Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, and Epic Records, will release Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection, a 12-disc library that includes Ray Vaughan's first commercial release, 1983's A Legend In The Making - Live at the El Mocambo Toronto Concert.

"Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection" will be released on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

The new release includes the entirety of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's official studio and live album as well as two discs of  rare and hard-to-find archival tracks.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were among the first artists to be inducted into the newly created Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on April 26, 2014. The Hall of Fame was launched in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the PBS televised concert series.  The Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on PBS in October 2014.

Stevie Ray first wrapped his fingers around a six-string when he was 7 years old. He dropped out of high school in 1971 and moved to Austin in 1972.  He played in a variety of bands in the '70s until he formed his own group, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble in 1978 with drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon.

Stevie Ray and Double Trouble's came to national prominence after their electrifying performance at the Montreux International Jazz Festival in 1982. A&R legend John Hammond, who discovered Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Big Joe Turner, Pete Seeger, Babatunde Olatunji, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Freddie Green and Leonard Cohen was instrumental in the recording of Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's studio debut, Texas Flood, for Epic Records in 1983.

In 1983, readers of Guitar Player voted Stevie Ray Vaughan as Best New Talent and Best Electric Blues Guitar Player. In 1984, the Blues Foundation named him Entertainer of the Year and Blues Instrumentalist of the Year, and in 1987 Performance Magazine honored him with Rhythm and Blues Act of the Year. Stevie Ray won six Grammy Awards and ten Austin Music Awards. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2014. Rolling Stone ranked Vaughan as the twelfth greatest guitarist of all time.
