NBA Trade Rumors: Jason Terry To Houston? Sacramento Kings Finally Sending Veteran Guard To A Contender!
The NBA Trade Rumors have lighted up again, this time with two of the more active teams in the league. The Houston Rockets are expected to make moves because they want to improve their team but lost out in free agency. The Sacramento Kings are expected to make moves but the reason is not really very clear.
The Houston Rockets did not acquire Dwight Howard and James Harden-two players who claim to be the best at their position, just to make the playoffs. They were sold on a plan to win a title, something both players have never had.
After the Blazers exposed their shortcomings, Houston went all out to grab a third star and complete their own Big Three. That plan was derailed and they even lost Chandler Parsons in the process. Now, they need to retool the hard way.
Yahoo Sports has the details of the trade:
"The Houston Rockets have reached an agreement in principle to acquire Sacramento Kings guard Jason Terry, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Terry had been a longtime rival of the Rockets with the Dallas Mavericks, and a move to Houston promises to escalate what has become an increasingly fierce rivalry between the teams this summer.
Terry, 36, spent eight years with the Mavericks before signing a 2012 free-agent deal with the Boston Celtics and moving onto Brooklyn and Sacramento in trades in 2013 and '14, respectively. Terry was the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year in 2009 and 2011.
The Rockets will send a package centered on non-guaranteed contracts, including Alonzo Gee, that the Kings can ultimately waive and gain salary savings and roster space, league sources said. Sacramento will send Houston two second-round picks in the deal, including one via the Knicks, league sources told Yahoo. The trade could take some time to officially complete, based on restrictions of contracts in the deal, league sources said."
It is uncertain whether the Kings are trying to shed cap space or will hold on to Alonzo Gee. They now have a lot of young players but still lack a veritable floor leader. This is the role that Terry did not want to take.
