Resident Evil HD Remake Trailer Released: Developers Hope It Captures The 'Sheer Terror' Of The Original, New Lighting Regime, And More

Only in the world of a videogame as popular as "Resident Evil" would there be a such thing as a remake of a remake of an original remake. Today, the trailer for the upcoming "Resident Evil HD" remaster was released and the updates to the resolution and lighting regime seem satisfying across gaming blogs. But is it like the developers hoped and as terrifying as the original?

Cinemablend reported today that, "over on the Capcom Unity blog an update was posted comparing the new generation remake of Resident Evil to the older generation remake of Resident Evil. It seems kind of confusing, but yes, Capcom is remaking a remake and re-releasing it for the eighth generation home consoles." If you track them, this new HD remaster will be the 3rd iteration of the original game released on the Playstation console in 1996.

In regards to the side by side comparison, "the improved image quality of this edition, the 5.1 surround sound, and 16:9 aspect ratio presentation should make it that much easier for modern gamers to enjoy the survival horror grandaddy," reported Joystiq.

Cinemablend also mentions that the newest edition converts the lighting regime of the original and it works well to highlight the upgrades to the characters. They finally add that, "the last set of comparisons mostly just highlight the upgraded texture maps, and further highlights the game's move into native 1080p for the newer gen consoles."

But will it be able to top the previous iterations of the wildly popular game series?

According to Kotaku, "as Capcom said, the goal of the remake (of the 2002 remake) is to capture the ‘sheer terror' of ‘Resident Evil' and, judging by the video, they seem to be on the right track."

Fans of the "Resident Evil" franchise can look forward to "Resident Evil HD" in 2015, due out on most home consoles and PC.
