'Magic Mike XXL' Starts Production; Stephen Soderbergh Returns As Cinematographer For Sequel

"Magic Mike XXL" has begun production and Stephen Soderbergh is back to working on the sequel, but this time as a cinematographer.

Following the success of the first "Magic Mike" in 2012, "Magic Mike XXL" is reportedly in the works, with the news confirmed by Stephen Soderbergh via Twitter.

The photo of a clapperboard with the sequel's name was posted on a Twitter account called @bitchuation, which was reportedly owned by the movie's cinematographer Peter Andrews.

But a report by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Andrews is, in fact, Soderbergh who goes by the name Peter Andrews as a cinematographer and Mary Ann Bernard when he edits films.

Soderbergh, who reportedly announced his retirement after the first "Magic Mike" movie, has vacated his director's chair and passed it on to Gregory Jacobs, who was his first assistant in movies including "Behind the Candelabra," and the "Ocean's" films.

Channing Tatum, who played the lead role in and produced the movie, weighed in on Soderbergh's new post in the film and said in an interview that "[Soderbergh] is such an opinionated and talented man, if he wants to do a five-minute tracking shot through a forest, you don't want to doubt him. It would be like having sex with your girlfriend while her porn-star ex-boyfriend is in the room watching you."

In an interview with GQ magazine, Stephen Soderbergh talked about the role he will be playing in the movie's sequel, and said: "I want to be there, but I don't want to be the director. I want to be a part of it. I want to be in the band, but I just don't want to be the frontman this time."

According to Cinema Blend, the photo hinted at scenes being shot at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which is a huge locational shift from the first movie's Tampa, Florida setting.

"Magic Mike XXL," which reportedly will continue the story of the first movie, will hit cinemas on July 1, 2015.
