San Antonio Spurs News: 2014 NBA Champs Trying To Lure Veteran Guard Ray Allen?

When it all seemed that the San Antonio Spurs are done for the off-season and are now geared to prepare for next season, The latest news include the 2014 NBA Champions as a possible landing ground for future Hall Of Famer Ray Allen.

Are they going to get the player who took away their 2013 NBA Title?

According to a report by Bleacher Report, Marc Stein of ESPN believes so. In a report by ESPN, sources told them that "this week, the Spurs and Clippers have emerged as two more rivals for the Cavaliers to worry about as Cleveland continues to try to lure Allen away from the Miami Heat."

Allen has also made it clear via the Boston Herald's Mark Murphy that the floating rumor of him going to Cleveland is not a certainty yet.

"There's so much speculation about me going to Cleveland. I haven't even decided where I will play. Obviously LeBron and I are great friends, and James Jones and I are really close. But at no point have those two tried to push me in that direction. I haven't had that conversation."

In this case, other NBA teams are still in the game to get probably the best 3point shooter in the game in the past two decades. In the report, aside from Cleveland and San Antonio, other teams who reportedly want to get Allen's services include the Los Angeles Clippers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat.

However, in case Allen decides to postpone retirement, the 38-year-old would surely want another shot at the NBA title. And of all the teams mentioned, the Cavs and the Spurs are the only ones with the best chances.

While Cleveland now is oozing with talent with James, Love and Irving in the fold, it may still take some time for all their games to jell in. And with the Cavs already getting Miller, Jones and Marion from free agency this year, Allen's role as a sharpshooter and floor spacer would be redundant.

On the other hand, the Spurs are still the best team in the NBA today because they managed to retain all of their players who won the title last season, and also made the trip to the Finals and almost won it in 2013.

Right now, Allen's playing style will certainly fit coach Popovich's drive and kick out type of game, and he will be playing with both an experienced bunch (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) and a developing one (Leonard, Green, Mills).

Allen's decision will certainly make the final impact in the upcoming NBA season. And it is due in a couple of days if not weeks as the sharpshooter mentions to Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant.

"I want to get to September and see how I really feel."
