Jimi Jamison Dead At 63; Survivor Shows Cancelled

Survivor singer Jimi Jamison has died of a heart attack at the age of 63. Their band's scheduled shows have since been cancelled.

The report that Jimi Jamison died was vetted by the band as it released a statement on its Twitter page: "Survivor is very shocked and saddened by the passing of our brother Jimi Jamison," said the tweet. "Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to his friends and family."

According to a report by TMZ, the singer's agent has confirmed that Jimi Jamison died and shared that the singer was found dead in his Memphis home on Sunday, which was completely shocking as he had just performed with his band in Northern California on Saturday night.

His family has released a statement regarding Jimi Jamison's death via their attorney. "Jimi was a friend to everyone he met. He was a loving father and grandfather and was always a person who valued people more than anything else," the statement said. "The family has asked for privacy during this extremely difficult time. In lieu of any demonstrations of sympathy, the family has requested that donaations be made to Jimi's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital."

According to Arizona Central, Jamison, whose real name was Jimmy Wayne, and his band Survivor had a scheduled show at Wild Horse Pass Hotel on October 4 but had since been cancelled.

Jamison, who was originally part of the band Cobra, joined Survivor only after the release of their biggest hit "Eye of the Tiger." He was, however, the singer for other Survivor hits including "Burning Heart" which was used for the movie "Rocky IV," and "The Moment of Truth," which was featured in "The Karate Kid."

One of the more popular songs that can be credited to Jamison was the theme song for "Baywatch" in 1989.

Jimi Jamison was reportedly also known for his charitable contributions and had actively participated in events supporting the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
