True Detective Season 2 Cast Rumors, And Plot Spoilers : Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Garrett Hedlund, Vince Vaughn And Elisabeth Moss All Rumored To Be Involved With Season 2 [PHOTO]

"True Detective" Season 2 is coming, here are all the rumors about casting, characters, plots and settings.

The show will be sticking to the anthology format, with new plots and main characters each season.

Show runner Nic Pizzolatto confirmed to Buzzfeed that there is no plan to work with a single director. "We don't have any plans to work with one director again. It would be impossible to do this yearly as we need to be able to do post while we're still filming, like any other show. There's some great guys I've consulted, and we're all confident we can achieve the same consistency."

According to reports, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch will be playing the two leads. Actress Elisabeth Moss is also allegedly in talks to play the female lead in the series. Vince Vaughn has been rumored to play the villian in this season. None of this has been confirmed by HBO or the shows producers however.

Creator Nic Pizzolatto has dropped various plot details in a series of interviews; he also said in a June interview that "literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever."

The plot focuses on the investigators will be trying to solve the death of Ben Caspar, a 52-year-old man who was killed and dumped on a highway with occult symbols scratched on his chest. Slate reports:

"The second season of True Detective will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought. Caspar's 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur-satanic symbols etched on his chest. It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the occult."

The Wrap reported that the character Farrell's is alleged to play "has been damaged by years of turmoil," the Monterey sheriff dives into "gambling and alcohol" when she's not on duty and the California Highway Patrol the CHP officer was "put on leave" after he pulled over a lady for drunk driving and let her off after she got him off.

True Detective's second season will be set in California. In a podcast with the NPR's To the Best of Our Knowledge, Pizzolatto said "Not Los Angeles but some of the much lesser-known venues of California, and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in Season 1."

Variety reported that Lombardo told an audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival, "It's still dark. Nic explores the darkness in people's souls. ... It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."

HBO's programming director said two weeks ago that the series will begin filming in September, with an eye towards airing the show in the summer of 2015; unless they've cast the entire thing in secret, they'd probably better get cracking on casting.

"True Detective" is expected to begin filming this September, check back for more details as we get closer to the release date, whenever that may be.
