Disney Veterans Try To Save 2D Animation With ‘Hullabaloo’: Project Reaches Funding Goal And Moves Forward, Features Two Female Scientists Fighting Evil In A Steampunk World

It's been three years since Disney released a 2D hand drawn animation film (Winnie the Pooh) and it seems like the medium that paved the way for animated film is falling under the focus of 3D computer animation. Thankfully, the 2D process is not out yet as a few Disney animators have gathered together for a project called "Hullabaloo." Although the task of saving 2D animation seems impossible, the Disney Vets are off to a good start. The short film about steampunk female scientists fighting bad guys has surpassed its funding goal on Indiegogo.

According to Hypable, "‘Hullabaloo' is created by Disney veteran animator James Lopez, whose previous works include ‘The Lion King,' ‘The Princess and the Frog,' ‘Pocahontas,' ‘Hercules,' ‘The Emperor's New Groove,' and the Oscar-winning ‘Paperman.'" The steampunk themed short film, "includes fellow Disney veterans Bruce Smith, Rick Farmiloe, Minkyu Lee, Sandro Cleuzo, and Sarah Airriess. Also joining the project are Disney veterans Alexa Summerfield Goriup as the final line artist, and CG modelor Joffery Black."

All of that talent combined can only enhance what is already looking to be an interesting story. The Independent described "Hullabaloo" as, "the story of Veronica Daring, a brilliant young scientist who returns home from an elite finishing school to find her father-the eccentric inventor Jonathan Daring-missing without a trace! The only clue left behind points Veronica toward Daring Adventures, an abandoned amusement park used by her father to test his fantastical steam-powered inventions. There she discovers a strange girl named Jules, a fellow inventor who agrees to help Veronica in locating her missing father and discovering the secrets of his work."

From the Indiegogo results, one could conclude that it all looks amazing so far indeed. According to The Wrap, "in just five days, the Indiegogo campaign for 'Hullabaloo,' an upcoming short film by several Disney animators, has already blasted past its $80,000 goal, taking in $112,205 by Thursday morning. With $28,000 more, they will produce a second episode, which will help in their push to ultimately make a feature film."

All in all with these results, one shouldn't be surprised if Disney decides to go with feelings of nostalgia and line up a feature film release for "Hullabaloo."
