"Star War's Rebels" has a release date of October 3 with a one hour animated movie entitled "Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion" The rest of the Rebels series will launch 10 days later, on Ocober 13.

"Star Wars Rebels" is set about five years before the beginning of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope." The animated series follows a group of rebels trying to combat or at least escape the might of hte empire.

The story is that of the formation of the Rebel Alliance, that Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo would eventually lead to defeat the evil Empire, at the outset of the show the organization is little more than a ragtag band of aliens and a Jedi Knight in hiding, Kanan (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.).

"It's the origin story of the Rebel Alliance," executive producer Simon Kinberg told fans at San Diego's Comic-Con International last month, comparing "Star Wars Rebels" to a story of the American Revolution. "They're rebels who don't imagine they'll be part of a larger organization one day."

In addition to Prinze, the "Star Wars Rebels" voice cast includes Steve Blum, Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall and David Oyelowo, who will play Agent Kallus, the so-called Rebel hunter, who works for the Imperial Security Bureau and is the right-hand man to the lead bad guy, the imposing, villainous Inquisitor. Because of the nonsens rule imposed in episode 1, that there can only be 2 Sith Lords at a time, the show is adding a new kind of villian called "The Inquisitor" Allegedly, these inquistiors will play a role in JJ Abram's new Star Wars movies.

"It's an intimate story," executive producer Simon Kinberg told StarWars.com. "It's really a story about five people on a ship that takes place against the backdrop of this massive galaxy of characters and villains and stormtroopers and battleships. On 'Rebels,' to me the opportunity is to create something for a new generation of Star Wars fans that also appeals to our generation that grew up loving it -- and still loves it."

Verified users will be able to view "Spark of Rebellion" at WATCHDisneyXD.com and with the WATCH Disney XD app beginning Sept. 29; the special will arrive on DVD on Oct. 14 with special features including four "Star Wars Rebels" shorts.
