One of  the upcoming HTC phones for 2014 has bee announced today, and from the looks of it, it seems poised to take HTC back to the game. 

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Taiwanese manufacturer unveiled its Desire 820 smartphone which packs midrange specs but some interesting features to turn heads in the market. 

While HTC was not at the IFA for the launch, it is still able to announce its second 64-bit processor-powered smartphone. Late last month, the company also unveiled the Desire 510, a lower-end midranger which is expected to be very popular among budget-conscious consumers. 

But for those who can afford a slightly higher price tag, the Desire 820 would be an ideal option. 

In spite of its status as a midranger, the Android-powered smartphone boasts a 5.5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, an octa-core CPU, and Android 4.4 Kit Kat with a 'promised' update to Android L soon. 

Other specs include a 13MP primary camera and an 8 megapixel front cam which would certainly be one of its main selling points in a selfie-crazed Asian market. Also on board is Cat 4 LTE connectivity, HTC's trademark BoomSound speakers, and even a dual-SIM version for several countries. 

HTC has been doing well this year compared to the past couple of years where it has seen a downward trend from the Android platform's top manufacturer to somewhere in the fifth or sixth spot. The interesting thing to point out is that while the Taiwanese manufacturer continues to develop solid flagships, it is its midrangers which are reportedly carrying the load in the previous quarters. 

And with the spec sheet of the Desire 820, it may aim to do the same. 

The HTC Desire 820 comes in a variety of color options and should be available by the end of September. Unfortunately, we still don't have details about pricing.
