Jeremy Lin News: Lakers' New Star Will Only Play One Season With Los Angeles?

The latest Jeremy Lin news may not sit well among his fans.

That is because, the 25-year-old star's stint with the Lakers may only be one single season. That means Los Angeles may not sign him back after his contract ends after next season.

According to a recent report by ESPN and Bleacher Report, the Lakers will reportedly push very hard to get either one or both Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic from the Phoenix Suns when they become unrestricted free agents next summer.

Currently, Dragic is in his contract year with the Suns, while Bledsoe may be compelled to accept the one-year deal that would allow him to opt out of the contract by next year and join Dragic in free agency.

Both players are currently the Suns' best players but it looks like they may only retain Dragic next year. In spite posting better numbers than his backcourt partner, Bledsoe has had several injuries the past season, which limited him to only a little more than 40 games played.

In the event that Bledsoe will be available for free agency next year, the Lakers will reportedly do whatever it takes to get the talented point guard.

What about Lin?

The Lakers absorbed his remaining one year contract from the Rockets in a trade that includes a future first round pick. And while Lin may have a feel good story coming to Los Angeles, he may not stay there for too long.

Still, there is nothing sure yet, and with  an aging Steve Nash in the backcourt, the Lakers may still re-sign Lin if he proves valuable to the franchise this coming NBA season.

This is why Lin's stint with the Lakers this season would be one of the most important seasons in his career. Fortunately, it looks like coach Byron Scott already has a role set for him even before training camp begins.

In a previous report, Scott praised Lin's ability to create shots for his teammates and himself, the willingness to take big shots, and the dedication to learn more.

All of those skills and traits better translate on the court if Lin wants to remain a Laker for the years to come.
