Upcoming Blackberry Phones 2014: New Square-ish Blackberry Passport Going Official On September 24, Could This Phone Get Blackberry Back To The Game?

One of the upcoming Blackberry phones for 2014  may see the light of day in the coming weeks as Blackberry released its invitation for an event in three different locations.

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, the Canada-based manufacturer has sent out invites for an event in Toronto, Dubai and London, all of which would take place on September 29 for the unveiling of the phone maker's square-ish smartphone, the Blackberry Passport.

The phone first made an appearance in a leaked image several months ago, and it immediately captured the attention of Blackberry die hard fans due to its QWERTY keypad.

A few weeks ago, the alleged specs of the upcoming Blackberry device have surfaced as well. It includes a 4.5-inch LCD display with 1440 x 1440 resolution, which confirms that it is indeed a square display, compared to the usual rectangular screens of most smartphones today.

The Gorilla Glass 3 protected screen will be joined by a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, which may be one year old, but is still more than capable to bring high-end performance to the handset. It is paired with a quad-core CPU and an impressive 3GB of RAM.

There will reportedly be a 32GB of built-in storage, which can be further expanded through the microSD card slot. The Blackberry device's display has been turned into a square because of the QWERTY keypad which has been included and packed at the bottom of the phone.

At the back of the device is a 13MP primary camera while a 2MP front shooter graces the front. Powering the device is a 3,450mAh battery which should be more than enough for an entire day of moderate use.

We will see on September 29 whether Blackberry still has other secrets up its sleeve during its simultaneous press launch events.
