Zeta Wave Plumbs Drawn Out Break Up in `Strange Heartbeat’; Indie Artist Drops Music Video For First Single Off Upcoming EP

Zeta Wave released a music video for her new single "Strange Heartbeat." The new song is the first single off of her upcoming debut EP "Over," which will be released on October 14.

Indie-pop singer Songwriter Zeta Wave, which is the musical AKA, Aliya Hashemi, released the lyric video to YouTube last month. For the new EP, Aliya was been working with Zach Nicita, who lays down the beat as drummer for NICITA and MSMR, a band that has been described as "New York's hottest pop export." Zach drummed on The Late Show with David Letterman last year with MSMR.

Aliya found the drummer on Youtube and reached out to him on Facebook, throwing some rough demos his way. Nicita programmed the drums in New York on his off time from a MSMR tour. Aliya brought in some friends to layer eerie synth and MOOG sounds.Strange Heartbeat was written by Aliya Hashemi and Miranda Zeiger. It was produced by Patrick Doyle. Besides Zach, Hashemi is playing with Neara Russell on keyboards and Patrick Doyle on bass.

Zeta Wave is from Seattle, but recently moved to Los Angeles where she has been hard at work writing and recorded the songs for her six-track debut EP from Zeta Wave. Zeta Wave's genre "is bedroom dance pop for fans of Robyn, Marina and The Diamonds, and Ellie Goulding."

According to her people, "Aliya a vibrant young singer-songwriter, has had a passion for music since day one. She grew up singing and playing music throughout her childhood, where she started playing piano, guitar, and flute by age 12. Her music is informed from inspirations as diverse A Tribe Called Quest, The Beatles, and Fiona Apple."

Zeta Wave covers the Beatles and Apple on YouTube videos. Looking at her version of "Blackbird," you can see she knows her way around the frets.

Zeta Wave's "Strange Heartbeat" is about "a recent drawn-out breakup," she said in a statement. "The sentiment is about hanging on and trying to make it work, but not being able to ignore the uneasiness in your heart, and that it's time to move on. When it was time to lay down the foundation for the recording."

The song "Waltz," which is also on the upcoming EP, "came together during a dreary Seattle winter. While struggling with endless days of gray, Aliya penned the love song to escape, as Waltz is about finding and losing yourself in a love that is larger than you, that which is always with you and transcends the day-to-day happenings that can bog you down."
