New "Penny Dreadful" season 2 spoilers reveal that Josh Hartnett's character Ethan will find out just exactly "what" he is when the Showtime series returns: a werewolf! Also, spoilers reveal that Dorian Gray will return to "Penny Dreadful" for season 2!

According to Variety, the "Penny Dreadful" finale finally revealed that Josh Hartnett's character Ethan Chandler was a werewolf. During Comic-Con 2014, Hartnett admitted he knew Ethan was a werewolf from his first meeting with creator John Logan.

"The werewolf thing made me feel more ingrained in the actual world of 'Penny Dreadful,'" Hartnett said, Variety reports. "Everyone else had their secrets, I wanted mine."

Logan gave a teasing spoiler about what to expect for Ethan in "Penny Dreadful" season 2.

"He finds out exactly what he is, and has to deal with the consequences of that," Logan said.

Season 2 will also explore Ethan's backstory, including his troubled relationship with his father, Variety reports. Logan describes Ethan's father as "a monstrous man who treated his son brutally."

So was Ethan bitten by a werewolf, or is the condition hereditary?

Logan admitted that he has yet to decide!

Meanwhile, producer Christopher King posted on Twitter a confirmation that Dorian Gray, played by Reeve Carney, will return for "Penny Dreadful" season 2.

This is great news for fans who are eager to see the relationship between Dorian and Ethan progress.

During Comic-Con, Logan explained his desire to explore sexuality in all forms on the series: "As a gay man, I thought it would be corrupt and inorganic to not deal with all forms of sexuality... all iterations of what it means to be human. I believe humans behave in the moment in the way that is true to them."
