Miami Heat Roster Continues Looking For NBA Championship Pieces, Could Andre Dawkins Be The Outside Threat The Heat Needs?

In spite the fact that it was left behind by its most valuable player, the Miami Heat roster still has a lot of potential - but not in a way that would lead to another conference title.

And in Pat Riley's attempt to get a backup guard for the aging Dwyane Wade, South Beach has reportedly tapped former Duke standout Andre Dawkins to join the Heat's training camp en route the upcoming NBA season.

Known for his sharpshooting skills from beyond the arc, Dawkins has been seen as poor man's Ray Allen, in that he is able to space the floor with his outside jumpers. And that will be something Miami will need in order for Chris Bosh and new acquisition Josh McRoberts to work inside effectively.

We all know Wade can't shoot the three ball consistently, and former Heat star Ray Allen has expressed previously that he is taking his time to make a decision whether to play or not, which brings us to the fact that Miami is already scrambling to get a backup for the 33-year-old guard.

Dawkins first gained popularity among scouts during his high school career, where he averaged 22.4 points and 7 rebounds a game for the  Atlantic Shores Christian School in Virginia. He was already a marked man when it comes to three point shooting in those days.

Apparently, his numbers dwindled in his college career with Duke where he played back up guard. Still, Dawkins managed an average of 7.9 points a game in only 13 minutes a game for the Blue Devils, primarily because his shots were from the outside.

While Dawkins went undrafted in this year's NBA Rookie Draft, Heat president Pat Riley took interest in his talents, and wants to know more whether he and coach Erik Spoelstra can make a way for it to work in the Heat's system.
