Boston Celtics News, Rumors: Rondo Hitting The Trade Block Soon? Is Boston Ready To Face Future Without Pass-First Floor General?

Last year marked the first season in Rondo's career that he is all alone with the Boston Celtics, with his three former teammates moving on to new teams. However, he didn't feel it first hand until he returned from a torn ACL injury in January last season.

Immediately after his return, Rondo showed sparks of brilliance right away, and whether it resulted in losses or wins, what matters is that Celtics' best player is back.

However, as Rondo is entering his contract year with the Celtics, Boston may need to finally decide whether to build around him or look for a younger and more capable scorer for the team.

According to a report by Bleacher Report, Boston president Danny Ainge may be a big fan of Rondo, but he may need to decide carefully whether to build around him or trade him this season.

In the report, Celtics coach Brad Stevens may be having a difficult time trying to make plays and satisfying Rondo's ball-handling 'requirement' for a single game. According to a former Celtic who had been teammates with Rondo, Stevens' type of play involves everyone and provides almost equal touches with the ball.

Rondo, on the other hand, thrives in plays where he can create open looks for his teammates, and his former head coach Doc Rivers, is doing that now with the Los Angeles Clippers with the league's best point guard in Chris Paul.

So to put it simply, Ainge may have two options, either to change the coach or trade Rondo, and the latter may be the better option.

At 28 years old, Rondo is almost at the prime of his career, and while he has shown glimpses that he can carry his team on his broad shoulders, there are times that they may be looking for a different type of gameplay.

Rondo can work on whatever he has and dish dimes to open teammates, but that type of play for the Celtics will be too predictable. Any team can just put their best defensive guy on Rondo and he'll find it more difficult to serve his role without another offensive threat.

It is already high time for Boston to make a decision, and that will ultimately decide their fate in the years to come.
