Cara Delevingne Twitter Vent: Model Hides From Paparazzi During Toronto International Film Festival, Feels Like 'Caged Animal''

Cara Delevingne had a rough start to the Toronto International Film Festival On Friday. It appears the model was harassed by paparazzi so badly, she had to resort to hiding in a public restroom. She live tweeted her experience from the time she began hiding to when she was “rescued” by her bodyguards. The topic of privacy regarding to public figures is a hot one right now, particularly since the recent leak of hundreds of celebrity nudes that were hacked from iPhones and cloud storage. Is Delvingne,  who has called out invasive photogs in the past, touching on an issue that we desperately need to re-examine?

The model began by tweeting, “I am currently hiding in a public bathroom because of guess who…” followed by “If you guessed the paparazzi you were right!! Thanks for making me feel like a caged animal once again. You won!” She then went on to describe the bizarre and childish behavior of one photographer in particular, writing, “Also, if I see the one who started stroking his ass at me and acting like a 5 year old i hope you don’t have kids cause I am worried for them.”

Delvingne was eventually able to calm herself down, and tweeted, “I need to remember, don’t get angry! Get even!! And trust me, I will!” She also added, for clarification, “Obviously this is very general and there are a few nice ones but there are also FOUL ones. This is directed at them.” The model then thanked “the lovely orange ladies” (her body guards) for “rescuing me out the bathroom.” In conclusion, she wrote, “I REFUSE to let them stop me from living my life fully but wow they make it harder.”

This is not the first time Delvingne has used Twitter as a platform to criticize paparazzi behavior. Refinery29 points out that in April of this year, she fired off a series of tweets on paps who were following her and then-girlfriend Michelle Rodriguez. At the time she commented on the fact that Paris is the only major city that bans photographers from harassing celebrities, pointing out, “It actually took someone losing their life! Diana, an inspirational woman and then it changed but they still won’t change in London.” She added that “It scared me because they act like they’re assassins with their telescope lenses, hiding in bushes or wherever they can find.”

Does Delvingne have a point, should more cities around the world adopt laws that limit and regulate paparazzis’ interactions with their subjects? Or is constantly being followed and photographed just fact of life that celebrities must accept?
